08/19/2019 Missing Person

On Monday August 19th @ 0943 hours, AVSAR personnel was contacted by the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office in regards to a missing female on the Blanca Flats on the North East end of Alamosa County. The missing female was reported to be missing since 8/15. After gathering information about the missing female, the AVSAR team was placed on STANDBY @1034hours and the team’s Drone Pilot was dispatched out to begin an aerial Search of the subject’s last known location.

While AVSAR personell were en route to the command post, a call was made to request aerial assistance for a grid search. By 1123hours, Life Flight 2 from UC Health in Colorado Springs was en route. There were two drones on site, one private pilot and one pilot from the Department of Fire Prevention of Colorado, searching the last known location until we were in radio contact with the Life Flight 2 crew. The helicopter team did an extensive grid Search of the area and was unable to spot the subject. Information then came in that the subject was spotted on 8/17 in town and was believed to still be in town. Search efforts then were placed in the hands of Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office and Alamosa Police Department to begin an urban search for the subject. All AVSAR team members were removed from STANDBY and all teams were out of the field by 1308hours.

Alamosa Volunteer Search and Rescue is incredibly thankful for the flight team of Life Flight 2 from UC-Health for their assistance in this Search. This mission could not have happened without the great partnerships we have in our community.
